NODO
GRAPHIC DESIGN + VISUAL IDENTITY SYSTEM
Our goal for this project was to re-brand Centre street in Calgary, Alberta. To achieve this we spent time in the area, talked to people walking and business owners to gain a better understanding of what represents Centre St. Through displaying information interviews, photo ethnography, public engagements, logo iterations, and a motion graphic on a genus loci map, a new brand is created.
Executed with Calum Bowyer.

Public Engagements
We began this project by touring between 8th and 20th ave on Centre St., and taking pictures of the businesses, and people walking around. We contacted business owners to get their input on why they like Centre St. and what they wish it would be. All of the information gathered was printed out and placed on a genus loci map. We developed five characteristics to describe NODO:
WELCOMING, VIBRANT, ECLECTIC, BUSY, and CREATIVE.
These are essential in understanding the identity of NODO and the ideation and brainstorming behind our logo and motion graphic. After a better understanding of the community in Centre St., we went through different iterations of a new name and decided on 'NODO,' - North of Downtown. We thought it would benefit us and Centre St., if we emulate the 'SoHo,' aesthetic in New York to try and bring new audiences to the area and improve the economic status there.
We then put together a style guide and research document for professional and operational use of the branding.
